Hello, I’m Sarah
I am obsessed with pottery and I’m so happy you are here! I am the solo maker behind Sarah T. Pottery and focus on making durable and charming pottery for everyday use. I hope that when using my pottery you will savor those small moments that ground us.
I began my journey in clay as a barefoot girl who found clay in a dirt pile during a home reconstruction project. I made all sorts of things out of modeling and oven baked clay- even a claymation when I was about 10! I think I fell in love with clay before I even took my first class in 2014. But once I had my first taste of working on the pottery wheel I was done for. I continued taking classes, and a year later became a studio at the place I took my first class- the Village Potters in Asheville, NC aka the most magical place on earth. In 2016 I joined the inaugural cohort of students in the Village Potters Independent Study and Mentoring program. I learned so much in these first years in clay- not only how to make things but how to load a kiln, different firing techniques, glaze chemistry, how to think about the business side of things, how to market and sell work. Mostly I learned there the incredible value of creating work alongside other creators. Potters are the best people and I loved my time in this community studio!
In 2018 I was back home in North Florida and converted the shed behind my house into a studio space with my own wheel, kiln, and glaze kitchen (which is just a plastic table, fan and ziploc bags of dry materials). I often walk out to the lake to take a break, or go on a sun-filled walk when I need to move my body after a long day of studio work. Now I work a “real job” as a speech therapist in an elementary school and all of my breaks and weekends are spent obsessing over pottery.
